About Fired Up Fitness

Fired Up Fitness started in 2014 by Olivia Franklin-Lyons. This was suppose to be a short term job to fill the time before she started chiropractic school. After shadowing at various clinics in the area, Olivia decided that becoming a chiropractor was no longer what she wanted. Instead, she wanted to pursue her business. Since then, it has grown and developed into what it is today!

Olivia graduated from Concordia University in Portland, OR with her B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science in 2014. She then went on to complete her Master’s in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine at the University of Western States in 2017. In addition to her education, Olivia has been involved with the fitness industry for a number of years. She began her career in the industry in 2011 with corporate fitness.

Following her graduation from Concordia, she became more involved with 24 Hour Fitness and worked her way up in management. While she gained a great deal knowledge through this experience, it was clear that corporate fitness was not for her. She quickly saw the missing links with corporate fitness and knew she wanted (and needed!) to offer her clients more. This is when Fired Up Fitness Training and Nutrition began.

Her education has been an invaluable piece to Fired Up Fitness. She has completed extensive coursework in exercise physiology, high performance training, nutrition, nutrition for exercise and sport performance, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology, exercise prescription and programing, exercise for special populations, sports management and sports psychology. Her education at Concordia also allowed her to study human cadavers, a huge piece of understanding how the body truly functions. She has also taken coursework in the treatment and management of autoimmune disorders, metabolic syndrome and hypertension, immune imbalances and gastrointestinal imbalances.

Furthermore, Olivia has completed several other certifications in the industry. She is a certified kettlebell and barbell instructor through StrongFirst. Additionally, she is certified through RockTape in fascial movement taping and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization. She also has body tempering tools at the gym to assist with soft tissue dysfunction.

Olivia utilizes the Functional Movement Screen with all new clients. In order for optimal performance to take place, the whole body must work nicely together. In other words, the body is a connected chain and FMS testing helps identify any weaknesses or dysfunction in the chain. This is done prior to any loaded movements with weight allowing any potential problems to be addressed and building a solid foundation for strength. Olivia has extensive knowledge and education for all levels of fitness.

In addition to owning and operating Fired Up Fitness, Olivia is also an Adjunct Professor at Concordia University St. Paul and Warner Pacific University. She has a huge passion for helping educate the future generation of fitness and nutrition professionals. Olivia ran her first marathon at the age of 15 and has since completed six full marathons. Presently, she has placed running on hold to train for her first powerlifting competition which she completed in December of 2017. She totaled 545lbs between her squat, bench and deadlift. In December 2018, Olivia hit a 300lbs deadlift at 125lbs body weight. This was a HUGE accomplishment.

Olivia aims to make a direct impact on others through her passion for fitness and nutrition, along with her extensive educational background.
